The European Cup is about to get underway in the Ski Area San Pellegrino. On Thursday, December 21st, the new La VolatA slope, which runs from the top of Col Margherita down towards Passo San Pellegrino, will host two women’s freestyle downhill races, which will qualify for the continental circuit. This will launch the Ski Area San Pellegrino onto the international skiing scene.
There has been a gap of a couple dozen years; the last time Trentino held a European Cup for fast Alpine ski tests was in 1975. It’s very cold and the slope is in excellent condition, thanks to recent snowfall and the work of the Col Margherita cable car lift company, specialists from the Monti Pallidi Sports Union in Moena and staff from the 2019 Junior World Championships, since these speed races will be test events before next winter’s important World Championship series.
The race route will start at 2510 meters and arrive at 1880 meters, with an altitude difference of 630 meters and a length of 2620 meters. Athletes who have already tested the slope in trial run workouts are very impressed.
